Welcome

The Tyler Scout Troop is an active and energetic group in St Albans, Hertfordshire, providing scouting activities for more than 70 boys and girls, aged 10 to 14.

The troop, the biggest in St Albans, has split into two sections to cope with the numbers - one section meets on Wednesdays, the other on Thursdays. Once or twice a term there is a joint activity for the whole troop.

This term's final activity will take place at the XC centre at Jarman's Park in Hemel Hempstead on Thurs 8th Dec. We will be spending 1h on the climbing wall, and 1h in the indoor caving system, and starting at 7pm and finishing at 9pm. The discounted cost for this double-header is £10 per scout.
Due to capacity constraints at the XC for these activities [who will provide supervision for both], we only have space for a maximum of 36 scouts. Places will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis for each night, so the first 18 scouts on Weds and Thurs night who provide both the money and two signed parental consent forms [attached] will be allocated a place. In the event of more scouts providing the money/completed forms on a given night than remaining places available, then those names will be drawn randomly from a hat.
For those interested to find out more before committing to this, you can look up the XC at www.thexc.co.uk
Please note that any cheques should be made payable to 18th St Albans Scout Troop.

The Tyler Scout Troop is part of the 18th St Albans Scout Group, which also runs beaver and cub packs and a separate scout troop. The Tyler troop was launched in September 2007 to meet an ever increasing demand for places at the Scout Group.

Scout hut cleaning

We have only eight volunteers. Could I please once again ask for volunteers as it would be a huge shame if we had to employ outside cleaners.

How can my son or daughter join?

Many scouts join from the linked cub pack but there are sometimes places available so it's worth joining the waiting list.

The children of parents who volunteer as assistant leaders are given priority

The role of parents

All the troop leaders are volunteers and many parents are  either leaders or help behind the scenes with admin and organisation.

At the minimum parents are expected to help at one meeting each term. If you think you could do more, the troop has vacancies for assistant leaders. Find out more from The No-Nonsense Parents' Guide to Scouting
